Long Strange Trip
Two CD set. Long Strange Trip is an unprecedented four-hour documentary about the legendary band The Grateful Dead from executive producer Martin Scorsese (Silence, The Departed), and director Amir Bar-Lev (The Tillman Story, Happy Valley). Justin Townes Earl: Kids In The Street
Kids In The Street is the seventh album from American roots troubadour, Justin Townes Earle. After marrying, moving to various corners of the country and continuous touring with both full band and solo, Earle made time to reflect on the past few years and find new clarity. With Kids In The Street, he made a conscious decision to work with a producer for the first time in his now decade-long career. Earle made the trip to Omaha, Nebraska to work with Mike Mogis (First Aid Kit, M. Ward, Connor Oberst) at ARC Studios. Together, they hand-picked musicians to create a new sound and environment for the songs that speaks to Justin’s roots, musically and personally. This creative collaboration, paired with Justin’s longtime guitarist Paul Niehaus, has resulted in an album that takes a big step forward.
Bill Frisell: Small Town
Small Town presents guitarist Bill Frisell and bassist Thomas Morgan in a program of duets, the poetic chemistry of their playing captured live at New York s hallowed Village Vanguard. Frisell made his debut as a leader for ECM in 1983 with the similarly intimate In Line. The guitarist’s rich history with the label also includes multiple recordings by his iconic cooperative trio with Paul Motian and Joe Lovano, culminating in Time and Time Again in 2007. Small Town begins with a tribute to Motian in the form of a searching, 11-minute interpretation of the late drummer s composition ‘It Should’ve Happened a Long Time Ago’, the duo’s counterpoint yielding a hushed power. Morgan has appeared on several ECM albums of late, as bassist of choice for Tomasz Stanko, Jakob Bro, David Virelles, Giovanni Guidi and Masabumi Kikuchi. Small Town sees Frisell and Morgan pay homage to jazz elder Lee Konitz with his ‘Subconscious Lee’, and there are several country/blues-accented Frisell originals, including the hauntingly melodic title track. The duo caps the set with an inimitable treatment of John Barry’s famous James Bond theme ‘Goldfinger’.
Jaco Pastorious: Truth, Liberty & Soul
Two CD live archive release. Truth, Liberty & Soul Live in NYC: The Complete 1982 NPR Jazz Alive! Recording captures the iconic bass innovator Jaco Pastorius leading a 22-piece big band on June 27, 1982 at Avery Fisher Hall in New York City as part of George Wein’s Kool Jazz Festival. Featuring a congregation of the top jazz musicians on the New York scene at the time such as Peter Erskine, Bob Mintzer, Randy Brecker, Jon Faddis, Frank Wess, Lew Soloff, Howard Johnson and others, along with the legendary harmonicist Toots Thielemans as a special guest. Truth, Liberty & Soul showcases Jaco’s brilliant compositions for large ensembles with electrifying energy of a live performance. A portion of the concert was previously broadcast on the NPR program Jazz Alive! In 1982, but this is the first official release authorized by the Jaco Pastorius Estate, Warner Music Group and NPR Music and contains an additional 40 minutes which never aired. Culled from the original 24-track tape reels, this is the complete concert from start-to-finish, with the sound meticulously restored for release and mastered by the original recording engineer from the broadcast, and multi-Grammy award winner, Paul Blakemore.

Linkin’ Park: One More Light
the seventh album by the alt-rockers. One More Light is a moment in time. It’s built on personal stories, sweat-stained and reeling from injuries-the product of six voices, each coming clean about their lives and struggles, as if it were the first time. We get an unobstructed view into what makes the band tick as people, fathers, husbands, musicians, and friends. The album features guest appearances from Pusha T, Stormzy, and Kiiara, the last being the first female singer featured on a Linkin Park studio album. The album also includes Jon Green, Julia Michaels, Justin Tranter, Ross Golan, Michael Leary, Andrew Goldstein, blackbear, and Eg White as co-songwriters, marking the first time Linkin Park has collaborated with other songwriters on a studio album.
Papa Roach: Crooked Teeth
Papa Roach have never taken the easy way out and they aren’t going to start now. Over the past two decades the group has established itself as a true trendsetter in heavy music: They’ve been nominated for two Grammys, toured the globe with everyone from Eminem to Marilyn Manson. However the group’s Crooked Teeth sees the band returning to their humble-and hungry-roots. The album was recorded in a cramped West Hollywood studio with up-and-coming producers Nicholas “RAS” Furlong and Colin Brittain, who grew up listening to Papa Roach and inspired them to revisit some of the traits that personally endeared the band to them, most notably frontman Jacoby Shaddix’s remarkable rapping technique. Never one to shy away from difficult topics, Papa Roach dug deep with Crooked Teeth and refused to censor themselves when it came to their opinion of the current political landscape and organized religion. For example, on “None Of The Above,” every ounce of musical intensity on the album is mirrored by Shaddix’s words whether he’s screaming, singing or rhyming.

Little Steven: Soulfire
the first solo album in almost two decades from the rocker/actor/Springsteen sideman. The last time Steven Van Zandt released a record on his own was in 1999 with Born Again Savage. But it’s not like he hasn’t been busy the past 18 years. In addition to his regular gig as Bruce Springsteen’s right-hand man in the E Street Band, he’s starred in a couple of TV shows (including The Sopranos), hosts the weekly syndicated radio program Little Steven’s Underground Garage and formed his own label, Wicked Cool Records. Van Zandt is backed on the album by a new lineup of the Disciples of Soul, the band he put together for his first solo record back in 1982, Men Without Women. “I have very little interest in the modern world, and I’m not in any way conflicted about that,” he says of the new album. “I grew up in a renaissance period, a very lucky time when the greatest music ever made was also the most commercial. We’ll never see that again so for me, there’s only one criteria, which is greatness. That’s all I care about. Is what I’m doing reaching for greatness? Whether I achieve it or not, that is one hundred percent of my criteria.”
live release from the German industrial rockers. Swedish director Jonas Åkerlund shot two acclaimed Rammstein concerts at the Palais Omnisports arena in Paris in front of 17,000. Featuring 22 songs from the band’s entire repertoire, the resulting film is not only the most spectacular collection of imagery about the most successful German rock band, but also a masterpiece of music cinema, capturing Rammstein’s energy as a unique visual and sonic experience. Rammstein is a German Neue Deutsche Härte band, formed in 1994 in Berlin. Throughout it’s existence, Rammstein’s six-man lineup has remained unchanged-singer Till Lindemann, guitarists Richard Z. Kruspe and Paul H. Landers, bassist Oliver “Ollie” Riedel, drummer Christoph “Doom” Schneider and keyboardist Christian “Flake” Lorenz.
Oumou Sangare: Mogoya
The wait is finally over. The greatest living female voice in African music, Oumou Sangare releases Mogoya (meaning “people today”) on a new record label with an all-new production team and a wonderful new set of songs. The power of Oumou’s voice and the potency of her message remain as strong as ever and, while her sound is rooted deep in the continuity of Malian tradition, Mogoya has a strong new sound. Co-produced by Andreas Unge in Stockholm and by the French production collective A.l.b.e.r.t. (who have worked with among others Air, Tony Allen, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Beck, Franz Ferdinand) in Paris, it draws on a rich musical heritage whilst also looking to the future. On the album, traditional African instruments – the kamele n’goni (harp), karignan (metal scraper) and calabash percussion – are augmented by electric guitar, bass, keyboards and synths with Tony Allen on drums. As Oumou puts it, “This time round I wanted to go for more of a modern sound, to satisfy young people in Mali but being careful, all the while, to respect my culture and tradition”.
Jade Jackson: Gilded
Jade Jackson’s stunning debut album Gilded offers a powerful introduction to the young singer-songwriter’s preternatural writing and distinguishingly raw sound that is simultaneously new and old, merging a youthful spiritedness with a weary storyteller’s perspective. The Bluegrass Situation called Jackson’s moody and romantic sound “part Hank Williams, part the Smiths” and a “unique combination of deadpan and delicate” while Rolling Stone featured Jackson in their “10 New Country Artists You Need to Know” list, describing her as “a raspy-throated, confident-beyond-her-years songwriter channeling Hank Williams via a somber goth-folk aesthetic.” Produced by Social Distortion frontman Mike Ness, Gilded is unapologetically country rock, merging the heartbreak and resilience of Lucinda Williams with the melodic confidence of Emmylou Harris, yet containing the emotional presence of a young musician who cherished albums by The Gun Club and Smiths alongside the works of George Jones and Hank Williams. Ness says of their collaboration, “I wouldn’t have done this record if I didn’t believe in her and her potential. The songs were amazing and came to life each week we worked on them. She is an old soul and it comes through in her songwriting and performing. She truly is one of a kind, raw and unique. She put her trust in me and I trusted she’d deliver and she did.”

The Mountain Goats: Goths

The Mastersons: Transient Lullaby
Don’t bother asking The Mastersons where they’re from. Brooklyn, Austin, Los Angeles, Terlingua; they’ve called each home in just the last few years alone. If you really want to get to know this husband-and-wife duo, the better question to ask is where they’re going. For the last seven years, The Mastersons have kept up a supremely inexorable touring schedule, performing as both the openers for Steve Earle and as members of his band, The Dukes, in addition to playing their own relentless slate of headline shows and festivals. Written in a slew of different cities around the world, the band’s new album, Transient Lullaby, out May 19, 2017 on Red House REcords, is a late-night collection of subtle, evocative performances that showcase the itinerant couple at their absolute finest. Musically, the album is rich with intoxicating harmonies that float above Eleanor Whitmore’s stirring string arrangements and Chris Masterson’s adroit guitar work, but it’s the deeply personal songwriting that always manages to steal the show.
Wavves: You’re Welcome
The word ‘brat’ has followed Nathan Williams around for almost a decade, but at the age of 30, with a fully-fledged business to his name, as well as the ongoing success of band Wavves, his rebellious streak has proven not just purposeful but pretty damn inspiring. You’re Welcome is the soundtrack to this new lease of freedom. It’s Williams’ tongue-in-cheek rebirth as a self-released, self-actualized, self-promoting punk kingpin, and despite putting his money where his uncensored mouth is, he’s emerged not just unscathed but with the upper hand. Williams took himself into producer Dennis Herring’s (King Of The Beach) studio in Downtown LA, and for the first time since the early records worked regular office hours and almost entirely alone. You’re Welcome is mostly comprised of Williams’ oddball, sample-led brainstorms. He came up with 40 tracks, now whittled down to twelve, fat-free punk zingers. A sample nerd, Williams delved into his obsession with 1950s doo-wop and – surprisingly – international folk, including Cambodian pop and ’70’s psychedelia from South America. The results make for one of the most diverse and intricate Wavves records yet. “Come To The Valley” contains a Phil Spector meets Beach Boys ’60s high school dance vibe, whereas title track “You’re Welcome” riffs on sound effects that could almost originate from Bizarro World, never mind Cambodia. Nathan Williams never went away, but now he’s made sure he’s here to stay for longer. And for that, You’re Welcome.

Following three holiday tours with Nick Lowe, America’s foremost instrumental guitar combo Los StraitJackets couldn’t help but ask the question, “What would Nick Lowe’s songs sound like as instrumentals?” Well the Grammy-nominated guitar heroes will answer that question with the release of What’s So Funny About Peace, Love And Los StraitJackets on Yep Roc Records. Produced by Neil Brockbank, Nick Lowe’s producer and longtime collaborator, the band delves into thirteen of Lowe’s most iconic songs from his illustrious career with original arrangements. !!! (Chk Chk Chk), the venerable New York City dance-punk band, return on Warp Records with Shake The Shudder. Recorded at the band’s home studio in Brooklyn, produced by longtime collaborator Patrick Ford at Taaffe Palace, and mixed by dance luminaries Phil Moffa, Joakim and Matt Wiggins, Shake The Shudder is a product of !!!’s DIY punk roots presenting a harder edge lyrically and sonically, while incorporating trans-Atlantic electronic music influences. The album also features a cast of rotating singers including Lea Lea, Meah Pace, Nicole Fayu, Cameron Mesirow and Molly Schnick. Thematically, Shake To Shudder reflects a band that has been together for twenty years. In the band’s early days, they had the typical punk attitude, pointing fingers at everything that’s going wrong in the world to cover up for their own inner turmoil. Now the band, older and wiser, are more comfortable with being more vulnerable, looking inwards instead of reacting outwards. To them you do this through friends, music, dancing, lovers… for Shake The Shudder, the sound of protest can be a march or it can be a sick groove paired with some short shorts.
Wynton Kelly Trio: Smokin’ in Seattle
Limited deluxe digipak edition. Smokin’ in Seattle: Live at the Penthouse (1966) presents previously unreleased live sets by jazz guitar icon Wes Montgomery with the irrepressibly swinging pianist Wynton Kelly and his trio captured live at the Penthouse in Seattle, WA on April 14 and 21, 1966. Recorded less than a year after Wes and Wynton’s classic 1965 live album Smokin at the Half Note, which guitarist Pet Metheny calls ‘the absolute greatest jazz guitar album ever made, ‘ Smokin’ in Seattle finds the dynamic duo joined by the solid rhythm section of bassist Ron McClure (Charles Lloyd, Joe Henderson) and legendary drummer Jimmy Cobb. the highly anticipated 2017 self-titled debut album from the global superstar. The ten track album features the lead single “Sign of the Times,” which topped the charts in over 80 countries upon it’s release day. “Sign of the Times” was produced by Jeff Bhasker and co-written by Styles, with additional production by Alex Salibian and Tyler Johnson. Harry is known as a member of the pop boy band One Direction. He made his debut as a singer with his band White Eskimo, who performed locally in Holmes Chapel, Cheshire. In 2010, Styles auditioned as a solo artist for the British television series The X Factor. After being eliminated as a solo performer, Styles was brought back into the competition, along with four other contestants, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson, to form One Direction.
Zac Brown Band: Welcome Home
from Grammy-Award winning country music outfit Zac Brown Band, their first release on Southern Ground/Elektra Records. Produced by Grammy-Award winning producer Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell) and In The Arena Productions, and recorded at Southern Ground Nashville studio, Welcome Home is what the band calls not only a return to their roots, but also a return to The Foundation, the band’s debut album that is now 5X platinum. The theme of reflection is echoed throughout the 10-track album. Songs range from the first single, “My Old Man,” which paints a poignant picture of the ever-changing relationship between fathers and sons to “Two Places at One Time,” about juggling the conflict between life on the road and the comforts of home, and “Roots,” which honors the band’s journey from their humble beginnings. Paramore: After Laughter
the fifth album from the alt-rock band and their first in four years. After Laughter was recorded at Nashville’s historic RCA Studio B – Paramore’s first time recording in their beloved hometown. The album was produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen and Paramore’s own Taylor York. After Laughter also marks the return of original member Zac Farro back to the band. Paramore formed in Franklin, Tennessee in 2004. The group released it’s debut album All We Know Is Falling in 2005, with the album reaching number eight on the UK Rock Chart and number thirty on Billboard’s Heatseekers Chart. The band’s second album, Riot!, was released in 2007. Riot! Was a mainstream success and was certified Platinum in the United States. Their 2009 follow-up, Brand New Eyes, is the band’s second-highest charting album to date, landing at number two on the Billboard 200. Following the departure of Josh and Zac Farro in 2010, the band released their self-titled fourth album in 2013. It gave the band their first career number one on the US Billboard 200 and was also the number one album in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Argentina and Mexico.

Chris Stapleton: From a Room Volume 1
the highly anticipated full-length album from the country music singer/songwriter is the first new music from Stapleton since 2015’s breakthrough double platinum solo debut Traveller and will be followed by From A Room: Volume 2 coming later this year. The album takes it’s name from Nashville s historic RCA Studio A, where it was recorded during the winter of 2016-17. Once again produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Dave Cobb, Volume 1 features eight original songs as well as a rendition of “Last Thing I Needed, First Thing This Morning,” written by Gary P. Nunn and Donna Sioux Farar and made famous by Willie Nelson. Other highlights include “Second One To Know”. In addition to Stapleton on vocals and guitar and Cobb on acoustic guitar, the album features Morgane Stapleton on harmony vocals as well as longtime band-members J.T. Cure on bass and Derek Mixon on drums and musicians Mickey Raphael on harmonica, Robby Turner pedal steel and Mike Webb on keys.

Cover Stories: Brandi Carlile Celebrates 10 Years of the Story (An Album to Benefit War Child)
2017 marks the 10th Anniversary of Brandi Carlile’s breakthrough album The Story. To celebrate she recruited artists like Dolly Parton, Kris Kristofferson, Pearl Jam, The Avett Brothers, Adele and many more for this Cover Stories album to benefit the charity War Child. Brandi describes this project as “… a David and Goliath story. Since becoming a mother, the reality of a child’s beautiful little life being torn apart by war felt like too big of a problem for me. So I asked my heroes and friends to help me launch a rock at the giant that is our refugee crisis and help in the only way we know how, through the power of music.”
Taj Mahal & Keb Mo: TajMo
TajMo marks a timely convergence of the talents of two unique American artists who’ve already built iconoclastic individual legacies that have extended and expanded blues traditions into adventurous new territory. Mac DeMarco: This Old Dog
Before you ancients out there turn your heads and scoff at the premise of a 20-something rock-and-roll goofball calling himself an old-anything, consider this: said perpetrator, he who answers to the name Mac DeMarco, has spent the better part of his time thus far writing, recording, and releasing an album of his own music pretty much every calendar flip, and pretty much on his own. The fresh meat you’re now feasting on, This Old Dog, makes for his fifth in just over half a decade – bringing the total to 3 LPs and 2 EPs. According to the DMV, Mac is 26. But in working-dog years, he could easily qualify for social security. To stay gold, turns out all he needed was some new tricks. DeMarco wrote some demos for This Old Dog on an acoustic guitar, an unusual yet eye-opening method for him. He also attributes some of the delay to his exploration of new gear he’d purchased, specifically a CR-78 drum machine, which he used while writing and can be heard on his album tracks for the first time ever. “That thing helped a ton, especially for demoing,” he says. “It’s on the album a lot, maybe four or five songs. I usually demo on a drum machine and then record real drums, but I liked that machine so much I kept it on the album. The majority of this album is acoustic guitar, synthesizer, some drum machine, and one song is electric guitar. So this is a new endeavor for me.”
Ozomatli: Non-Stop Mexico to Jamaica
LA’s highly acclaimed multi-Grammy winning Latin-fusion institution return with an homage to their roots reinterpreting traditional and contemporary Mexican songs using signature Jamaican riddims! The album features a bevy of superstar guest appearances including Juanes, Regulo Caro, Gaby Moreno, and Kyle McDonald (of Slightly Stoopid) plus additional production by famed Jamaican producers Sly & Robbie! Ozomatli formed in 1995 and is known for advocating for farm-workers’ rights and immigration reform. The band has performed in various countries all over the world, including China, Tunisia, Jordan, and Burma. Although the band has had many member changes over the years and has sometimes had as many as ten members, the current six members have been in the band since it’s debut album.

Since first emerging with 2006’s Age of Winters, the group has been extolled by everyone from Rolling Stone and The Washington Post to Revolver and Decibel. Metallica personally chose them as support for a global tour, and they’ve earned high-profile syncs in movies including Jennifer’s Body and Jonas Åkerlund s Horsemen. 2015’s High Country is the band’s biggest, boldest, and brightest frontier. Greetings From… encompasses the best elements of the band s live show and showcases the evolution of the entire band’s career. The Sword formed in Austin, Texas in 2003. The band has been categorized as a stoner rock and doom metal band, and is influenced by groups such as Black Sabbath and Sleep.

Here in 13 new ferocious and sophisticated tracks, Hadreas and his collaborators blow through church music, make out music, an array of the gothier radio popular formats, rhythm and blues, art pop, krautrock, queer soul, the RCA Studio B sound, and then also collect some of the sounds that only exist inside Freddy Krueger. Tremolo on the electric keys. Nightclubbing. Daywalking. Kate Bushing, Peter Greenawaying, Springsteening, Syreetaing. No Shape was produced by Blake Mills, the man behind Alabama Shakes’ Grammy Award winning album. He added precision and expansion. Some things are pretty and some are blasted beyond recognition. Records like this, records that make you feel like you’re 15 and just seeing the truth for the first time, are excessively rare. They’re here to remind you that you’re divine.
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds: Lovely Creatures
the most comprehensive overview of the recorded work of Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds to date. Spanning thirty years of music from their debut album From Her To Eternity through to Push The Sky Away their fifteenth studio album, the collection navigates one of the most exhilarating, idiosyncratic and inventive bodies of work created in contemporary music. Included are long-standing live favorites “Stagger Lee” and “The Mercy Seat,” their hit single from 1995 “Where The Wild Roses Grow” through to recent fan favorites “Jubilee Street” and “We No Who U R.” There are songs that newcomers may only know from their appearance on film and television soundtracks, notably “O Children” (Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Pt. I) and the ubiquitous “Red Right Hand,” most recently familiar to fans of the series Peaky Blinders. The album was compiled by Nick Cave and founding member Mick Harvey, with help from the current Bad Seeds. Band members past and present also raided their personal archives to provide previously unseen photos. Lovely Creatures was originally intended for release in 2014. Since it’s postponement the band have recorded and released their highly acclaimed sixteenth studio album Skeleton Tree.
Juliana Hatfield: Pussycat
“I wasn’t planning on making a record,” says Juliana Hatfield, of her Pussycat album. In fact, she thought her songwriting career was on hiatus, and that she had nothing left to say in song form; that she had finally said it all after two decades as a recording artist. But then the presidential election happened. “All of these songs just started pouring out of me. And I felt an urgency to record them, to get them down, and get them out there.” She booked some time at Q Division studios in Somerville, Massachusetts near her home in Cambridge and went in with a drummer (Pete Caldes), an engineer (Pat DiCenso) and 14 brand-new songs. Hatfield produced and played every instrument other than drums-bass, keyboards, guitars, vocals. From start to finish-recording through mixing-the whole thing took a total of just twelve and a half days to complete. Pussycat comes on the heels of last year’s Hatfield collaboration with Paul Westerberg, the I Don’t Cares’ Wild Stab album, and before that, 2015’s Juliana Hatfield Three reunion/reformation album, Whatever, My Love. Pussycat is being released into a very tense, divided and inflamed America. The songs are reflective of that atmosphere-angry (“When You’re A Star”), defiant (“Touch You Again”), disgusted (“Rhinoceros”), but also funny (“Short-Fingered Man”), reflective (“Wonder Why”), righteous (“Heartless”) and even hopeful (“Impossible Song”, with it’s chorus of ‘What if we tried to get along/and sing an impossible song’).

Peter Rowan: My Aloha!
Americana icon Peter Rowan has had a storied career. Produced by Sean Lennon at his studio compound in upstate New York throughout 2016, the album is the group’s most musically evolved to date, while still staying true to their original blistering take on fuzzy, dirty rock n’ roll. During the recording, the band isolated themselves from the outside world, infusing the album with a focused liveliness similar to the spirit that brought them together in the first place. On Satan’s graffiti or God’s art? founding members Cole Alexander and Jared Swilley teamed with former guitarist Jack Hines (who played in the group from 2002-2004) and recent additions Oakley Munson on drums and Zumi Rosow on saxophone. The album also features contributions by Saul Adamczewski of Fat White Family and guest vocals by Yoko Ono. Satan’s graffiti or God’s art? vindicates Black Lips for sticking it out through many years of shifting trends and buzz bands; a sonically captivating document that is as creatively unhinged as it is precisely executed, one of the rawest and most expansive albums in the band’s storied history.

Worldwide CD debut! Albert Brooks (born Albert Lawrence Einstein) is an American actor, filmmaker and comedian. A Star Is Bought was originally released on vinyl in 1975. The concept of this album was that Albert has decided to become a massive crossover music star and designed an album to appeal to many different clienteles as possible. He appeals to many famous friends, asking such musicians as Alice Cooper and Linda Rondstadt for advice. Albert King, Andrew Gold and David Geffen make appearances too.
