Randy Newman: Dark Matter on CD

2017 release from the veteran singer/songwriter. Dark Matter, Randy Newman’s first album of new material in nine years, is the follow-up to 2008’s acclaimed Harps and Angels, which the Guardian called “the work of a true master of popular song.” Produced by long-time Newman collaborators Mitchell Froom, Lenny Waronker, and David Boucher, the album includes songs about Vladimir Putin, the Kennedy brothers, Sonny Boy Williamson, science vs. Religion, love and loss, and more. Randall Stuart Newman is a singer-songwriter, arranger, composer, and pianist who is known for his distinctive voice, mordant (and often satirical) pop songs, and for film scores. Since the 1980s, Newman has worked mostly as a film composer. Newman has received twenty Academy Award nominations in the Best Original Score and Best Original Song categories and has won twice in the latter category. He has also won three Emmys, six Grammy Awards, and the Governor’s Award from the Recording Academy.

Hard Working Americans: We’re All In This Together on CD& LP

Throughout music history, the breakthrough albums for several legendary artists were live recordings – At Fillmore East by The Allman Brothers Band, Frampton Comes Alive by Peter Frampton, and Alive by KISS. Now four decades later, history seems poised to repeat itself with the release of We’re All In This Together, the powerful, new live document by Hard Working Americans. Dubbed a “jam band supergroup” by some journalists, because of it’s high-profile lineup, the rock sextet features bassist Dave Schools and drummer Duane Trucks of Widespread Panic, guitarist Neal Casal of Chris Robinson Brotherhood, keyboardist Chad Staehly of Great American Taxi, Tulsa guitarist Jesse Aycock, and celebrated singer-songwriter Todd Snider on lead vocals. Recorded live by monitor engineer Colin Cargile during the band’s 2016 Rest In Chaos tour, the album was produced by Schools and mixed by the legendary John Keane, who also mixed the band’s first record. We’re All In This Together features 13 tracks, with most selected from an unforgettable show at Iron City in Birmingham, AL. “For the kind of band we are, I think this is a definite statement for us,” Snider says of We’re All In This Together. “It captures a collective spirit, a collective muse being shared by a thousand-plus people.”
